OUR MISSION

To assist families and provide resources that help youth develop into productive and responsible citizens.

RESOURCES

These resources are available to Collier County families:
• Assessments for youth and families
• Individual and group counseling
• Substance abuse education, counseling and drug testing
• Anger management and crisis intervention training
• Parent support groups and skills training
• Mentoring services

These community resources have partnered to provide families with assistance.

COLLIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office provides families with safety and educational programs, mentoring opportunities and programs aimed at providing fun, safe activities that keep Collier County children engaged throughout the year. The agency takes a holistic approach to deterring criminal behavior and keeping children on track.

LUTHERAN SERVICES OF FLORIDA

Lutheran Services works with families who have children between the ages of 10 and 17 who exhibit truant, runaway or behavior issues. It provides free individual and family crisis intervention and anger management counseling, along with parenting skills training. Lutheran Services can provide youth shelter services if needed. The goal of Lutheran Services is to decrease risk factors that can lead to involvement in criminal behavior and to prevent children from entering the child welfare or juvenile justice systems. Visit the Lutheran Services of Florida website.

DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES

Children and Family Services protects the vulnerable in Collier County. DCF is responsible for nearly 19,000 children in foster care and finds permanent homes for those who can’t be reunited with their families. It offers access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, and helps families dealing with domestic violence. It provides access to food stamps, temporary cash assistance, Medicaid enrollment, and help for families that are threatened by homelessness. Visit the Department of Children and Family Services website.

DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE

The Department of Juvenile Justice works with the Sheriff’s Office, the court system and families to see to it that juveniles successfully complete their court-ordered conditions. Visit the Department of Juvenile Justice website.

COLLIER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

The goal of the Collier County School District is to provide quality education to children and to see them graduate. When a student acts disruptive, criminal, or truant the schools evaluate the child’s needs and work with the family, law enforcement, the courts, and other community resources to find the child appropriate assistance. Visit the Collier County Public School District website.

THE DAVID LAWRENCE CENTER

The David Lawrence Center provides mental health and substance abuse evaluation and assessment and case management services for youth who have been courted ordered or referred by the Department of Juvenile Justice. The assessment includes review of the youth’s developmental, social, behavior, physical health, family and mental health history. Because drug and alcohol abuse are serious issues with today’s youth, assessments are designed to determine if youth have a drug or alcohol problem. Through the assessment process, the family will be given a referral for services that may include education for the youth and family, individual counseling, group therapy, and/or other programs available in Collier County. Children may be referred by parents, schools, law enforcement or other parties. Children who can benefit from these services may be truant, unmanageable, possible substance abusers, or at risk for other reasons.

The David Lawrence Center has a representative at the Youth Resource Center to answer your questions and get the assessment scheduled. If you need to register for a parenting class our Youth Resource Center liaison can help you with that as well. Visit the David Lawrence Center website.
