The Collier County Sheriff’s Office participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 287(g) program. 

This is a national program carefully administered by a federal agency. We have implemented this program responsibly and we administer it fairly and in accordance with the law. This program is one of the reasons that Collier County is the safest metropolitan county in Florida. 

Under the program, individuals who have been arrested on criminal charges and are being booked into our jail are asked about their immigration status. Our deputies in the community do not ask people their immigration status, nor do we as an agency conduct immigration sweeps.   

We conduct ongoing community engagement efforts to reassure witnesses and victims of crime that they will not be targeted by law enforcement based on their immigration status. Illegally present immigrants who are victims of certain crimes also have the option of applying for a U Visa, which protects them from enforcement of immigration law. Victims and witnesses approved for U-Visas may continue through legal immigration processes to become legal residents and citizens.

287(g) Steering Committee Meeting

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office will host U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for the Collier County 287(g) steering committee meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023. The meeting will take place at the Professional Development Center, 615 3rd Avenue South, Naples, Florida 34102.

This meeting will be open to the public. Anyone wishing to speak may do so by contacting S. Teeling, US ICE, ERO Miami at Miami.Outreach@ice.dhs.gov at least 10 calendar days prior to the meeting.
