The following admissions are grounds for disqualification from further consideration for a job with the CCSO:

  • Any use of marijuana or its derivatives within the past 12 months
  • Repeated, recreational use of marijuana or derivatives within the past 10 years
  • Selling or trading any controlled drug as an adult
  • Any use of the controlled substance, not legally prescribed to you and used for legitimate medical purpose, as follows:
    • While employed by a law enforcement agency whether in a certified or non-certified position OR in a law enforcement or correctional position in any national, state, or local organization.
      • The only exception is a written policy from employing agency that requires a one-time taste and smell.
  • Use after resignation from a certified role but not while employed in a certified role will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Any use of any controlled drug, other than marijuana
    • Within the past 5 years unless such substance is lawfully prescribed to you and is used for a legitimate medical purpose
    • Beyond 5 times, within the past 10 years.
  • Abuse or fraudulent procurement involving prescription medications.
  • Addiction to alcohol or prescription drugs or illegal drugs unless:
    • Successfully completed recommended treatment AND
    • Remained in remission for past five years

NOTE: Failure to disclose drug use prior to the conditional offer of a position, even if within the allowable limits, may result in a disqualification for a minimum period of one year (unless the applicant successfully completed a drug rehabilitation program and provides documentation for ADA exclusion).
